This past week has been a hard one for me. A friend of mine from highschool, Skylar Johnson, passed away on Wednesday. Devri Redford and I hurried home as soon as soon we found out. Coming back for one more day of classes, we then turned around and came home for the weekend. The viewing was extremely hard, but at the same time comforting. Skylar wanted to serve a mission and was taking mission prep. classes to prepare. He is now on his mission. He was called to do something greater then any of us can even imagine. His funeral was amazing. The Bishop announced that there were 900 chairs set up- all of them were filled and people were standing. Although the funeral was hard it brought peace. I know that Skylar is doing something amazing and he will be able to help all of his friends on their missions. He was a great person, one of the best, and he will be missed. 
Skylar "Skiller" Alan Johnson, 18, of Ammon, died Jan. 30, 2008, at his home of heart related issues.
He was born Jan. 23, 1990, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Alan R. Johnson and Janice Harper Johnson. At the age of 6 months, the family moved to Pocatello for a short time before moving to Ammon.
Skylar was a senior at Hillcrest High School and had already earned many college credits through Idaho State University. He had been accepted at Utah State University and BYU-Idaho to continue his education after graduation. At Hillcrest, he ran cross country, participated in "Fright Line" and was a member of the Hillcrest Chorale.
Skylar worked at Idaho Cleaning Maintenance, Eagle Rock Blasting and Aeropostle.
He loved life and both played hard and worked hard. He enjoyed snowboarding, snowmobiling, camping, jet skiing, "digging" in his Jeep, basketball and music. Skylar was an accomplished pianist; he loved to sing and spend time with his friends and family.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved his Heavenly Father. He had achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He held many leadership positions in his priesthood quorums and scouting. He was diligently preparing to serve a mission on earth but was called home early to serve there. He was very close to his Grandpa Harper and we are comforted knowing they are together now.
Skylar was a very loving, giving and tender-hearted person and will be dearly missed by his family and many, many friends.
He is survived by the following: parents, Alan and Janice Harper Johnson; a brother, Ian Johnson; and a sister, Amanda Johnson, all of Ammon; paternal grandparents, Val and Louise Johnson of Merced, Calif.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Cecil and Zina Harper.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the Ammon LDS First Ward Chapel, 3000 Central Ave., with Bishop Jim Summers officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Sunday, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St. in Idaho Falls, and for one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
